Opinion time, lovelies.
To you, what makes a good AU?
Does believability matter to you?
Do you count speculative fiction as AU?
What AUs have you read and enjoyed and what did you like about them?
What AUs did you dislike and why?
In case you haven't figured out, Skipper is thinking of doing an AU.

It must be original. Believability is for chums. The future is AU so ja. All of em. I love me some AUs The boring ones. I think my overlying theme here is that you should make it original.

Idk how original it is... I think it will just be a one shot.
More Louis stuff because writing two Louis fics at a time just isn't enough for me.

Do an AU, Skipper. I want to read it, Skipper.
I'm a firm believer that there's no such thing as a "bad plot", it doesn't matter if it's a cliche, it's all about how you write it. So really, don't worry about how original it is, so long as you write it well (which I know you will, you talented and flawless, you!).

It depends on the writing style. If it's absolutely unbelievable, then I'm on the fence about it. But if the writing is utterly fantastic, i'll tolerate it. I've read a few bad AU's. I can't pull any off of the top of my head, but i've definitely read some bad ones. But I've also read really good ones; i.e. Oispaceman's Three Days in Dublin. It's a genderswap fic. It's not believable of course, but the writing is fantastic so I read it.
But of course your writing IS utterly fantastic, so I doubt you've anything to fret over.

I'm currently writing an AU in where the boys are superheroes, I'm making it believable and relatable which is kind of to do when you're writing a superhero fic. I'm giving the boys flaws in their powers and pers, to make it more real.
Like for example: Niall is a cocky heartbreaker who thinks he can always get what he want and win in every fight.
I'm adding a mystery to make the story more interesting. And most def Drunk Texting is a good AU.

I actually prefer writing AUs because I feel that there are more possibilities when I write. If i write them as the famous boys that they are, I find I have to factor in a lot of considerations (like, you know tour/concerts/fans/what they can or cannot do because of their superstar status). I feel like there is more freedom when writing an AU and it will be believable as long as it's well written. I particularly like funny AUs (or anything funny in general)

Oh this idea I have is absolutely zero percent funny.
It's actually purely speculative and still involved super stardom.

I like historal AU's with a believability factor.
I'm too analytical to tolerate much else, unfortunately.
Though I did come up with a great AU idea.
But I won't write it.
