i just wrote this as a short little drabble that popped into my head...so yeah
“No, Liam! Come back, get away from there! What are you doing!” She shouted towards the ledge Liam looked over. She ran upwards towards the dark silhouette, stopping about ten yards away.
He could jump at any moment. He could fall down, down , down into the deep dark sea, where the world could hide any secret, even death.
Slowly, the wind threatening to push the boy over in to the water at any second, Liam turned around to face the scared, blue eyed girl.
“Come back? That’s not something I expected to ever hear from you.” He laughed, his face turned up to the night sky and the clouds which poured down the coldest rain possible. “You know,” He looked to a pleading Anna, “All these years, you’ve been completely oblivious to me. Ever since that Tom came along, you never once thought about me again.” There were tears running down his cheeks, merging with the rain drops. “We were friends, Anna!” His voice nearly cracked.
Anna didn’t want to believe it, she couldn’t. They used to be friends, she thought they still were. “Please, Liam, don’t do this.”
“Why not? Just so you can forget about me again? Forget the guy who was there for you through out everything? If it wasn’t for me, Anna, you wouldn’t even be here!”
It was true, years ago, Anna faced a ledge of her own, but a hand held her back. And then a pair of arms held and healed her. She had forgotten about Liam, but not the way he thought she had. She would never forget what he had done for her. Perhaps though she had forgotten what he could still do for her.
“Just…just please don’t, don’t do this, Liam.” She began to cry as well and the boy’s hard expression dropped.
He had hurt her.
“You know Anna, I once told you that if anyone ever hurt you, I would destroy them. And now I guess I’m the demon, and demons must be slain.” He lifted his foot to step back and breathed his last words so lightly the wind nearly erased them from existence. “I’m sorry.”
Liam’s foot moved back over the edge as though to take a step but caught nothing.
Down, down, down he fell. Down to the deep, dark sea that would keep him no matter what.
Anna cried out in pain as his body fell out of vision and she leaped forward, one arm stretched out in an effort to catch him just as he had caught her.
Her hand caught nothing but the grass as she fell to her knees just in front of the ledge where he had just stood. She let out a sob, unable to peer over and see the body crash to the waves.
She needed to be saved again now. But no one was there, for the one person who had any chance at helping her was the one she failed to save. The demon that never was.
