Harry thought that Melody would be happy that he was moving on after her truly unfortunate death. But Harry also thought that the Haunted House would just be a fun Halloween activity that he could do with his new fiancee.
Perhaps he was wrong.
Zero Degrees
That day was still fresh in Harry’s mind. It creeped into his dreams, morphing them into nightmares. It sneaks up on him when he sees girls that resemble her in the audience during concerts. It ruins his day when the memory hits him and he just wants to curl up into a ball and cry all day.
It would be far from the truth to say he hadn’t done just that before. It would be far from the truth to say that he only did that on occasions. And of course he hadn’t let any of the other band mates see, and he definitely didn’t let Reece see.
He kept this sort of thing to himself; just as he kept the pictures of her to himself. Harry thought he was a pathetic hot mess when those days come. Those days that haunted him at least three times a week. Even with Reece, nothing could ever fill that void in his heart that Melody left him.
It wasn’t even when he thought about her really unpleasant departure from the world that broke his strong barrier. No, it was when he thought about the happy times. The times that he would walk into Melody’s apartment with Chinese food in hand, preparing for an amazing evening, only to hear her yelling out random phrases in the shower. Or that time that Melody had ran into his apartment with a red sheet tied around her neck, yelling “Have no fear! Supergirl is here!” The times that she made Harry laugh until his sides hurt.
Today was not one of those days. Today was one of those days that give Harry a reason to be ecstatic, Melody completely off of his mind. Today was one of those days that Melody hadn’t gotten a chance to creep into his mind yet. Today, Harry Styles and his new fiancée, Reece Lawrence, were going on their engagement vacation.
Perhaps one could say that Harry wasn’t ready. You could say that Harry wasn’t even ready to date Reece a month after Melody lost her battle with cancer, but you couldn’t say that One Direction had merciful management.
“Nooo!” Reece yelled, smacking Harry’s hands away from her delicate sides. “Don’t tickle me I’m sorry!” She yelped, trying desperately to make him stop. He didn’t though. He just continued until, for the first time that day, Melody’s memory filled his thoughts. The way she would writhe beneath him, his large hands tickling her stomach. He pulled away sharply, not hinting that it was due to the memory of his ex. If you could even call her that. Melody was more of.. his last girlfriend. You can’t label her as Harry’s ex, because there really wasn’t an ending to them at all. Maybe that’s why Melody’s memory still haunts Harry to this day. Because he was allowed no closure. He just came back from the Up All Night tour, to discover his girlfriend had passed, losing her two year battle with cancer. The same two year battle with cancer that Harry had been by her side with the whole time.
In a way, Reece is exactly what Harry needed. He needed someone fun to take his mind off of Melody. Someone to piece back the broken heart he had harbored. Reece did her very best. But nobody could quite fill that void like Melody could. Reece just pieced it back together with superglue. She was like stitches. More than a band aid, but less than never hurting it. You could compare breaking your nose to the way Reece was to Harry. If you break your nose, it can heal. But it will never be the exact same shape again.
The car ride was finally over, allowing Reece and Harry to be free from the small confines of his range rover. They picked up their bags to enter the large mansion Harry had rented out for them for the duration of the week. Halloween was coming up, and Reece had always been a sucker for a thriller.
The mansion was smaller inside than it looked on the outside. It was cold, though. Freezing, actually. Harry put it off as it being due to the fact it hadn’t been rented out since last month. “It’s Zero degrees in here,” Reece mused, taking a look around.
I know my summary sucks shit. whatevs. I'll work on it.
